MOUNTAIN YANAPACCHA
Maximum altitude: (Yanapaccha summit 5,480).
Difficulty: Easy
Duration: 3days / 2 nights.
Preferred time: May – September.
Location: Cordillera Blanca.
Average temperature: Between 13° C – 23° C during the day/ at night -05°C to – 02°C.
DAY 01: HUARAZ – DRIVE TO PORTACHUELO – HIKE TO YANAPACCHA MORAINE CAMP 4900M.
After the breakfast in the Hotel we will picks up you to go along the Callejón de Huaylas in the north side from Huaraz. Passing different and traditional Andean towns, first arriving and making the first stop in Carhuaz 2650m, here we will find the traditional made at home Ice-Creams from local fruits, then we will continue our travel to the next stop in the ancient town of Yungay, this city was buried by an Avalanche that fell down from Huascarán north peak in 1970, the New Yungay 2500m, from here we have to start going up to the Llanganuco Valley, almost in the base of Huascarán Mountain in its north side, for the entrance to the Llanganuco Valley we will register in the National Park Control, after that we will visit the two lakes of Llanganuco called Chinancocha and Orconcocha, lunch on the way, then we will continue going up to the Portachuelo, if it is not cloud we will appreciate the amazing peaks of the Mountains like: Huascarán, Chopicalqui, Pisco, Huandoys, Chacraraju and others; after 4 hours driving we will start go up to the Moraine Camp of Yanapaccha for about 3 more hours with the Guide help, we will check our climbing gears to leave ready for the next morning, dinner and overnight at 4900m.
DAY 02: MORAINE CAMP – CLIMBING UP YANAPACCHA SUMMIT 5460M – MORAINE CAMP.
This Day We will start With Our Mountain Course Our Leader will show Us step by step all the rope system, the basic knots for climbing, how to use adequate the equipment, then will take Us to the Glacier where we will practice everything about technic for climbing vertical walls and how to rescue a partner if had fall. Survive if you are into an accident, everything.
After lunch we will rest and save energies for the next day where we will improve the lection we had the day before climbing the 200 mt, approx. To Yanapaccha Summit.
DAY 03: MORAINE CAMP – BACK TO PORTACHUELO AND BACK TO HUARAZ
This day we will have breakfast early around 03:00hours, then around 03:30hours we will start climbing, 30 minutes over the rocky path to get the snow, after that we will climb up to the summit for about 3 – 4 hours over 5460m, where we will enjoy the nice mountain views around like Chacraraju, Pisco, Huascaran, Chopicalqui, Contrahierva, Huandoys, etc.; after that we will start descend to the Moraine Camp for about 3 hours, lunch at the Camp. After the lunch in the Moraine Camp of Yanapaccha, we will descend to Curve of Portachuelo, there will be waiting our Transport to picks up us and immediately back driving to Huaraz, passing the same valley of Llanganuco and then we will get the Huascaran national Park Control again, where we will registering whit your passport, then we will continue go down to Yungay, after this we will continue driving along the Callejon de Huaylas to the South side, arriving to Huaraz around 5pm approximately. Transfer to the Hotel.
