PISCO - CHOPICALQUI - HUASCARAN

Location: Cordillera Blanca.
Average temperature: Between 13° C – 23° C during the day/ at night -05°C to – 02°C on the top – 10°C.

 

DAY 01: HUARAZ – CEBOLLAPAMPA –BASE CAMP OF PISCO (3 100 – 4 650) m.s.n.m

 After the breakfast in the Hotel, from Huaraz we will aboard the Bus to go along the Callejón de Huaylas in the north side of Huaraz. Passing different traditional Andean towns, first arriving and making the first stop in Carhuas (2650m), here we will find the traditional made at home Ice-Creams from local fruits, then we will continue with our travel to the next stop in the ancient town of Yungay, this city was buried by an Avalanche that fell down from Huascarán Mountain in 1970, the New Yungay (2500m), from here we have to start going up to the Llanganuco Valley, for the entrance to the Llanganuco Valley we will register in the National Huascaran Park Control, after we will visit the two lakes of Llanganuco ( Chinancocha and Orconcocha), where we will have Lunch, then we will continue going up to the Base Camp of Pisco, if it is not cloud we will appreciate the fantastic peaks of the Mountains, Huascaran, Chopicalqui, Pisco, Huandoys. We will arrive to the base Camp Pisco accompanied by the donkey drivers and mountain staff around 3 pm. overnight at 4650m.

DAY 02: PISCO BASE CAMP – SU MMIT – BASE CAMP (4650 – 5752) m.s.n.m

 Wake-up around midnight or 1:00 a.m. and after a very light breakfast we star to walk by the moraine for approx. 2 .5 hours then here we’ll have to put our climbing equipment to start climbing up to the Pisco Summit 5752m, after climbing up for about 1 hour we’ll get a quite all of 40 mtrs and 50 ° of difficult, after this all we have to climbing for about 2 hours half to get the Summit, where we’ll enjoy the nice views of different mountains such as: Artesonraju, Alpamayo, Caraz, Huascaran, Chopicalqui, Yanapaccha, Chacraraju, Brogui, Huandoys, etc., after we star climb down, 2.5 hours on the glacier then 2 more hours on the moraine to the Refugio. Overnight at the Refugio.

DAY 03: BASE CAMP – LAKE 69 –CEBOLLAPAMPA (4650 – 4000)

After the last breakfast in the Base Camp of Pisco Mountain, we will take the trail which connect to lake 69 by high trail around for 2.5 hours, spending 30 minutes enjoying the beautiful landscape at the lake, then to descend by the normal 69 lake’s trail to Cebollapampa for about 2 more hours, there will be camping, and have lunch.

DAY 04: MORAINE CAMP YANAPACCHA – CHOPICALQUI BASE CAMP (4,900 – 4,450) m.s.n.m 

 This day After the Breakfast in the Moraine Camp of Yanapaccha, we will descend to Curve of Portachuelo, and walk through Base camp. Chopicalqui. Rest the full afternoon.

DAY 05: BASE CAMP – MORAINE CAMP (4450-4850) m.s.n.m

 After the breakfast in the Base Camp we will hike up to the Moraine Camp for about 4 hours, during this hike we will enjoy the splendid view in the north site like Pisco, Huandoys and Chacraraju peaks, the trail seems a little bit narrow, we will have lunch along the way, after arrive to the camp in the afternoon we will check our climbing equipment for the next day, dinner and overnight Camping at (4850m).

DAY 06: MORAINE CAMP – CAMP 1 OF CHOPICALQUI (4850 – 5450) m.s.n.m 

After the breakfast we will climb up for about 40 minutes  over the rocky paths to get the glacier, where we will put our climbing gears to start climbing for about 4 hours to the high Camp , where we will enjoy the splendid views of nice peaks like Chacraraju, Huandoys, etc. overnight over the glacier at (5450m).

DAY 07: CAMP 1 – SUMMIT CHOPICALQUI – MORAINE CAMP (5450 – 6354 – 4850) m.n.s.m  Summit day:

 we will leave at 1:00am in the morning after breakfast, climbing by the south west ridge for about 5 to 6 hours will get the summit (6534m), then after enjoy the views to Pisco 5752 mt., chacraraju 6112 mt. Huandoys four tops over 6000 mt. and Huascaram the highest tropical mountain in the world 6768 mt. then we will come back to the Camp 1, by the same route rappelling and climbing down at the camp  the cook will be waiting with something hot to drink and eat, after we will continue descending to Moraine Camp for about 2.5 hours more, arriving around 4:00pm, Overnight Camping at (4850m).

DAY 08: MORAINE CAMP – BASE CAMP – HUARAZ (4850 – 3100) m.s.n.m

After the last breakfast in the Moraine Camp of Chopicalqui, we will descend to the Base Camp for about 1 hour half, continue go down to the highway called Curve de Chopicalqui, where our transfer will be waiting for us, from here to Yungay will take 2 hours, along this travel we will pass the Llanganuco lake and then we will arrive the of Huascaran National Park Control, where we will registering whit our passport, then we will continue go down to Yungay, after this we will continue traveling along the Callejon de Huaylas to Huaraz for about 1 hour more. Arriving to Huaraz around 17:00hours approximately. Transfer to the Hotel. Then we will meet at the early evening and go home to enjoy dinner and traditional local drinks. 

DAY 09: REST DAY IN HUARAZ

DAY 10 BASE CAMP AT (4200M). (DRIVING TIME: 2 HOURS / WALK TIME: 4 HOURS (WALK UP).

Departure from Huaraz at 7:00 am. toward north side of Callejon de Huaylas until Mancos at 2500m, after that we will drive on dirt road until reach Musho village, where we will meet with donkey driver and donkeys, who are going to load our climbing gear until base camp at 4200m. Overnight camp at Huascaran base camp

DAY 11: HUASCARAN BASE CAMP AT (4200M) – MORAINE CAMP AT (4850M). (CLIMBING TIME: 04 HOURS (WALK UP).

This day after our breakfast at 8:00am, after that we will prepare our climb gear, to start walking up on rocky section toward moraine at 4850m, in this place we will have lunch, and in the afternoon we will enjoy impressive Sunset. Overnight camp at Huascaran moraine camp.

DAY 12: MORAINE CAMP AT (4850M) – HIGH CAMP AT (5350M). (CLIMBING TIME: 05 HOURS (ASCENT).

After our hearty breakfast we will move on rocky path until reach the glacier edge, then we will traverse until reach the high camp at 5350m. Overnight camp at Huascaran high camp.

DAY 13: HIGH CAMP 01 AT (5350M) – SECOND HIGH CAMP AT (6010M). (CLIMBING TIME: 04 - 05 HOURS (ASCENT).

After our breakfast we will start climbing up toward col passing on the way up by a little bit dangerous avalanche site until reach the col in the middle of couple peaks, in the afternoon we will enjoy one of the most impressive sunset in whole of Cordillera Blanca. Overnight camp at Huascaran second high camp.

DAY 14: SECOND HIGH CAMP AT (6010M) – HUASCARAN SOUTH SUMMIT PEAK AT (6768M) – SECOND HIGH CAMP AT (6010M) – HIGH CAMP AT (5350M) – MORAINE CAMP AT (4850M). (CLIMBING TIME: 16 HOURS (ASCENT & DESCENT).

This day the most important we will have breakfast very early at 12:00 am then we start walking up on switchbacks with some steep and slope sections, after 7 hours climbing up we will reach the south summit at 6768m, from the summit we will have a breathtaking view to the cordillera Blanca, then we back on the same route up on rappels at difficult parts until reach our camp then we continue descending until moraine camp site. Last night camp at moraine camp.

DAY 15: MORAINE CAMP AT (4850M) – MUSHO AT (3050M) – HUARAZ. (WALKING TIME: 05 HOURS (DESCENT).

After our breakfast at 8:00am we will pick up our climbing gears to back until base camp, where our donkey driver is waiting us to load our climb gear until Musho village, where our private transport is waiting for us to back Huaraz. Then we will drop you at your Hotel to rest and clean up then we will meet at the early evening again for the celebration with some traditional dish and Drink at Our Family house  this is the End of our expedition.
